Savigny-les-Beaune 1er cru Aux Gravains

Appellation
Savigny-Les-Beaune
Region
Appellation: 1er cru of the Côte de Beaune, in the Côte D’Or
Location
Like an unfolding map, the landscape expands between the Corton Mountain and Beaune. The Côte de Beaune hills move back a little on either side of a small river, the Rhoin. The vineyard is ancient. For a long time it formed part of the domaine of the duke, the neighbouring abbeys and the Knights of Malta. The imposing 14th-century chateau is witness to the legitimate claims of this vintage. The Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée was established in 1937.
The Terroir
On hillsides that slope gently before climbing steeply, at 250 metres to 400 metres in altitude, you will find the alluvial cone of the Rhoin followed by the geology of the Corton Mountain. On the Pernand-Vergelesses side, the south-facing terrain enjoys gravel soils, sprinkled with ferruginous oolite. Going down, the brown-red limestone becomes clayier and stonier. Opposite, the hill faces east on limestone terrains with sandy traces.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WINE
To the eye, a deep cherry colour, crimson with garnet highlights. The body is discreetly tannic, rich. It keeps its fruitiness. Roundness and volume, balance and power, in just the right proportions, often evoking Morello cherries with a charming elegance.
