Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru La Maltroie
- Appellation
- Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie
- Region
- Appellation: 1er cru of the Côte de Beaune, in the Côte D’Or
- Location
- In the south of the Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet shares with Puligny the uncontested Prince of all dry white wines in creation: the divine Montrachet (pronounced Mon-rachet). This large and beautiful hill harbours the two Burgundy varietals. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay flourish side by side here due to the complexity of the terroirs. Major marble quarries form a rocky formation: in Paris the Trocadéro and, more recently, the Louvre Pyramid have used this slabs of this pink or beige stone. The Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée dates from 1937. It also includes a few vineyards in the neighbouring village of Remigny, in the continuation of the terroir.
- The Terroir
- Clay and limestone soil, very rocky. Between 220 and 325 metres in altitude, the terroirs successively consist of, from the summit: Rauracian cliffs, a Callovian talus and reflected Argovian marls, Bathonian limestones. Depending on the Climats (localities with specific qualities), the soils are limestone and stony, marly or sandier (Jurassic bed).
